The Journey of Robert Matt

The love for composing started when Robert was 9 years old. He won a price in a nationwide composition contest and felt, that this was his way.
By the age of 10 Robert started his classical piano lessons and joined a german boys choir in Regensburg. There he also found his love for Popmusic and Jazz even though the head of the school, Domkapellmeister Ratzinger didn't like that at all. He continued to write songs and other pieces and from the age of 16, Robert played concerts with his band, wrote jingles for Radio commercials and started to produce his songs in studios.
After classical graduation Robert went to Los Angeles and studied at the Dick Grove school of music where he got his diploma in Jazz & Pop piano and arranging.

Back in Germany he moved to Berlin - the wall has just come down.
By the age of 23 he had his first successes as a writer for TV music and as a studio- & live keyboader. In collaboration with the sax player Annie Hilsberg he released his first album "All is one" with Sony music. The band was called "Yulara" and their 4 albums got released in over 25 countries. Their song "flying high" stayed in the top ten of the US Radio charts for many months.
He also toured with his other band "23rd Spirit", in which he performed as a singer.

Robert started to compose scores for movies and many international TV commercials. In the beginning of the millennium he began his work with the Jazz singer Jessica Gall, who later became his wife. They released several albums, entered the top ten Jazz charts and are still playing many concerts in Germany and other countries. He also worked with a lot of international artists such as the Temptations, the Supremes, Angélique Kidjo, Pet Shop Boys,
Maceo Parker and many others.
Robert is a member of the German film academy and besides his work as a live artist he is writing film scores, commercial music, songs for movies or album releases and free orchestral pieces.
He is living in the suburbs of Berlin together with his wife, their two daughters, a dog, a cat and a turtle.
